Hello, I'm James Hooper, creator of the Butterfly Facelift. Red Light Therapy is the final step in our multi-technology Butterfly Facelift® treatment. Let me show you how it works. It uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light — gentle, soothing, and completely non-invasive. Unlike the everyday light around us, these wavelengths reach past the surface, into the living layers of your skin. There, the light is absorbed by tiny structures inside your cells called mitochondria — the part of the cell that produces its energy. That gentle boost helps your skin cells work more efficiently, supporting their natural cycle of repair and renewal. As those cells become more active, they support the skin's own production of collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep it looking firm and smooth. At the same time, red light helps encourage healthy circulation and calm the look of redness and inflammation. That's why it's the final step in the Butterfly Facelift — soothing the skin and supporting recovery after the other technologies have done their work. As the final step, we apply our human fibroblast growth factors, then bring you under the red light. The gentle warmth helps open the skin and draw those growth factors deeper, so your skin can absorb more of what helps it recover and renew. The goal is a calmer, smoother, more rejuvenated-looking complexion — with no surgery, no cosmetic injections, and minimal downtime for many appropriate clients. Red Light Therapy: the finishing touch to the Butterfly Facelift.

In this clip, James Hooper — founder and sole creator of the Butterfly Facelift® — explains Red Light Therapy, one of the six clinically studied technologies combined in the Butterfly Facelift®.

Red Light Therapy uses gentle, low-level light designed to help refresh the look of the skin and support the body's natural collagen response — with no surgery, no cosmetic injections, and minimal downtime for many clients.

It is performed alongside Apollo TriPollar RF, Ultherapy, Ultrasonic Cavitation, and Microneedling at Newport Beach Skin Tightening, serving Orange County from our Newport Beach and Costa Mesa locations.

Is Red Light and Near-Infrared Therapy Right for You?

Red light and near-infrared therapy may be appropriate for adults seeking a gentle, non-invasive treatment that supports the skin's appearance and post-treatment care.

Additional evaluation may be necessary for people with photosensitivity disorders, light-triggered conditions, active skin infections, suspicious lesions, skin cancer in the treatment area, or medications and topical products that increase sensitivity to light. Protective eyewear will be used when required by the device manufacturer.

Tell us about pregnancy, medical conditions, eye conditions, migraines or seizures triggered by light, medications, and photosensitizing skincare products before treatment. Results vary, and light therapy is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure a medical condition.

Treatment suitability is determined during your consultation. Medical clearance may be required, and treatment may be adjusted, postponed, or declined for safety reasons.

What Is Red Light Therapy?

Red Light Therapy uses gentle, low-level visible red light applied to the skin. It is designed to support the skin's natural recovery process and may support a calmer, more refreshed appearance — with no surgery, no cosmetic injections, and minimal downtime for many appropriate clients; individual recovery experiences vary.

What Is Near-Infrared Therapy?

Near-Infrared Therapy uses light just beyond the visible spectrum, which reaches somewhat deeper than visible red light. It is designed to complement Red Light Therapy by supporting the skin's natural recovery process in the deeper layers. The two are delivered together in our protocols. Individual responses vary.

How These Technologies Are Used in the Butterfly Facelift®

Red Light and Near-Infrared Therapy are two of the six technologies in the Butterfly Facelift® ($2,500–$3,000), two of the seven in the Signature Butterfly Facelift® ($4,500–$7,500), and two of the four in the entry-level Mini Butterfly Facelift® ($400–$900).

They are typically delivered toward the end of a session, where they may help calm the visible appearance of temporary redness from the preceding technologies and support the skin's natural recovery process. Treatment selection and settings vary according to your skin, concerns, goals and suitability.

Treatment Experience

Sessions are gentle and relaxing — you rest while the light panel is positioned over the treatment area. There is no heat-based discomfort for most clients, no incisions, and no cosmetic injections. Many clients simply close their eyes and unwind.

Potential Benefits

Red Light and Near-Infrared Therapy may support the skin's natural collagen response, may help calm the visible appearance of temporary redness, and are designed to support a refreshed-looking complexion over a course of care. These technologies do not cure inflammation, heal disease, or guarantee collagen production, and individual responses vary.

Safety and Suitability

Light-based therapies are generally well tolerated, but they are not appropriate for everyone — certain medications and conditions can increase light sensitivity. Your complimentary consultation includes a suitability review before any treatment is recommended. Specific contraindications are confirmed individually at consultation.

Eye Protection

Appropriate eye protection is part of light-based treatment sessions. The specific protective measures used for your session are explained at your visit, and you should keep any provided eye protection in place whenever the light panel is active.
